Safe Practice Guide

For Online Classes with La Sentío Flamenco School

FAQs

Safe Space

Before every class, take a moment to check your practice environment.

1

Space and movement

  • Do you have enough room to move in all directions without obstruction?

  • Can you extend your arms fully in every direction without hitting any objects?

  • Have you checked above you — ceiling fans, low-hanging lights, shelves?

The floor

  • Is the floor suitable for flamenco practice — not too slippery and not excessively hard?

  • If the floor is hard, consider using a small mat for warm-up and cool-down, but not for footwork practice

  • If the floor is slippery, wear appropriate footwear for safety

Distractions

  • Are you free from distractions for the duration of the class?

  • If you have children or pets at home, make sure they are safely settled before class begins

  • Let the people you live with know that you are in class and need uninterrupted time

Self-Care

Looking After Yourself

2

Clothing and footwear

  • Wear comfortable clothing that allows free movement in all directions

  • Wear your flamenco shoes if you have them, or appropriate footwear for footwork practice

  • Avoid loose jewellery or anything that could catch during movement

Physical wellbeing

  • If you have any pre-existing injuries or physical conditions, inform Irene before the class begins — not during. This allows her to adapt the material for you from the start

  • Only do what is comfortable for your body. It is always acceptable — and encouraged — to adapt any material to your physical reality

  • Listen to your body throughout the session. If something does not feel right, stop and let the teacher know

Warm-up and cool-down

  • Always warm up before class. A flamenco class is physical work — arriving cold increases the risk of injury

  • Always cool down after class. This is as important as the warm-up and is often skipped

  • If you are unsure how to warm up or cool down for flamenco, ask Irene at the end of a session — she will advise you

Emergency contact

  • If you live alone or will be without other adults at home during the class, please provide us with an emergency contact number before your first session

  • In the unlikely event of an injury during class, we want to make sure you have access to support

Your Connection & Technical Setup

A stable, reliable connection makes the difference between a class that works and one that doesn't. Check the following before every session: Setup

3

Device

  • Make sure your device has sufficient battery to last the full duration of the class — or connect it to a power source before you begin

  • Tuck all wires and cables safely out of your practice area so they do not become a trip hazard

  • Test your camera angle before class — Irene needs to see your full body, including your feet. Set the camera far enough back and at the right height for this

Audio

  • Test your audio before class. Can you hear clearly? Is your microphone working?

  • Use headphones or earphones if your device speakers make it difficult to hear the music and compás clearly — sound quality matters in flamenco

  • Mute your microphone when you are not speaking to reduce background noise for the group

  • In Zoom, go to Audio Settings → Microphone → Noise Reduction and set it to Low — this allows Irene to hear your footwork, palmas and movement clearly and give you accurate corrections in real time

Internet connection

  • If possible, connect to your router via cable rather than Wi-Fi for a more stable connection

  • Close any unnecessary browser tabs, applications or downloads that may slow your connection during class

  • If you experience connection problems during a session, leave the call and rejoin — this resolves most issues

Our Commitment to You

We take your privacy seriously. The following measures are in place for every online class:

4

  • All classes are closed events — available only to students who have booked and been confirmed in advance

  • Access to each class is via a private link and password sent to confirmed students only

  • The class will not be shared, advertised or made publicly accessible

  • Only Irene, as the host, has the ability to record the session

  • Please note that no online platform can be guaranteed as fully secure. We take every reasonable measure to protect your privacy, but we ask that you also take care with your own login details and do not share your class access link with others

Emergency contact We hold emergency contact details for all participants in case of injury during class, in the event that the participant is unable to access support at home independently. These details are stored securely and used only in genuine emergencies.

Class recordings Some group classes are recorded for the benefit of students who cannot attend live. If a class is being recorded, you will be informed in advance. Recordings are shared only with confirmed students of that class and are not published or shared publicly.

Questions?

If you have any questions before your first class — about the setup, your space, a physical condition, or anything else — do not hesitate to get in touch before the session begins. We would rather answer a question before class than have it affect your experience during it.

We look forward to seeing you in class.
